What Can Parents Expect
At MANDOLAND 读多多, we understand the importance of collaboration between educators and parents. Here’s what you can expect from our programme:
1. Small Group Sizes
To ensure personalised attention, class sizes are kept to a maximum of four children.
2. Measurable Outcome
By the end of one term, children will be able to identify around 60 characters. Before the age of 5, children in the programme will have learned around 500 Chinese characters, setting a strong foundation for literacy. This is especially significant considering the expectation in Singapore primary schools to learn 600-650 characters. Our programme provides a head start, equipping children with a robust foundation as they enter kindergarten and primary school.
3. Love for the Chinese Language
Beyond academic learning, we prioritise instilling a passion for Chinese literature, helping your child develop an appreciation for stories and cultural heritage.
4. Home Resources for Reinforcement
Parents receive resources to help revise and reinforce learning at home, supporting their child’s progress.
5. Age-Appropriate Levels of Learning
For 2 to 3-year-olds:
-
We focus on helping children attune their listening skills to Mandarin sounds and intonation as they begin to mimic speech.
-
Phonological awareness is introduced at this stage to build a strong foundation for future language learning.
-
Characters are introduced in a fun and engaging manner through art and craft activities and physical games.
For 3 to 4-year-olds:
-
Using the same graded reader series, we start pen-holding and writing practice.
-
Basic grammar concepts and sentence structure mastery are introduced.
-
At this age, as children begin to talk and communicate more, there is a tendency for them to switch to English due to Singapore’s environment. Thus, it is even more important that our programme captures their interest, fostering a lasting love for Mandarin.
For 5 to 6-year-olds:
-
The focus shifts to preparing children for Primary 1 Chinese curriculum, ensuring they meet the Ministry of Education’s expectations.
-
Providing ample opportunities for students to practise speaking and reading helps refine pronunciation, enhance comprehension, and build communication confidence.
-
Our primary goal is to cultivate students’ ability to grasp nuances in cadence and meaning, crucial for fluent and expressive communication.
